First: neither of these mattresses exists anymore
This is a three-way extension of our head-to-head Purple vs Casper comparison. If you only care about those two, that page goes deeper on each.
Two important updates before any comparison:
- Casper discontinued the Wave Hybrid in October 2024 as part of a full lineup overhaul. Its closest successor is the Casper Dream Max (and the Snow Max for the cooling-focused version). The current Casper range is the One, Dream, Dream Max, Snow, and Snow Max.
- Purple discontinued the Hybrid Premier 3 (and the Premier 4) in 2023 when it launched the Restore and Rejuvenate collections. The Premier 3's direct replacement is the Purple RestorePlus Hybrid, which uses a 3-inch GelFlex Grid — the same thickness the "3" in the old name referred to.
You may still find the old models at third-party retailers or as open-box stock. If you do, the original specs are below for reference. But if you're buying new in 2026, the real comparison is Casper Dream Max vs Purple RestorePlus, and that's what this article covers.
Purple RestorePlus is the better cooling and combination-sleeper bed and the more direct successor to what people loved about the Premier 3. Casper Dream Max is the softer, more contouring option for side sleepers who want zoned support. Both are premium — expect $2,000+ for a queen at list.
The originals, for reference
| Spec | Casper Wave Hybrid (discontinued) | Purple Hybrid Premier 3 (discontinued) |
|---|---|---|
| Height | 13" | 12" |
| Construction | Zoned foam + gel pods over pocketed coils | 3" GelFlex Grid over pocketed coils |

The Wave Hybrid was Casper's most premium, most contouring bed — the one with gel pods and six-zone support. The Premier 3 was Purple's mid-tier hybrid, sitting between the 2-inch Hybrid and the 4-inch Premier 4. Both were medium-feel hybrids around $2,000–$2,500 for a queen at the end of their runs.

How the successors feel
Casper Dream Max
The Dream Max carries forward the Wave's core idea: a thick, contouring comfort system with zoned support that's softer under the shoulders and firmer under the hips and lumbar. It's Casper's deepest pressure-relief bed. Side sleepers and people with lower-back pain are the target. It sleeps warmer than Purple because it's foam-on-coils; if you run hot, Casper's Snow Max is the same bed with cooling upgrades.
Purple RestorePlus Hybrid
The RestorePlus is the Premier 3 with updates: the same 3-inch grid, a coil base with foam edge encasement, a new cover, and a choice of Soft or Firm. The grid gives you Purple's trademark bounce and pressure-point collapse with the most airflow of any mattress construction on the market. It's the better choice for hot sleepers and combination sleepers, and it's the more faithful successor if you specifically wanted the Premier 3.
Feel-wise: Dream Max is cushiony and hugging. RestorePlus is buoyant and springy. If you liked the sound of the Wave Hybrid because you wanted to sink in, get the Dream Max. If you liked the sound of the Premier 3 because you didn't want foam at all, get the RestorePlus.
By sleep position
| Sleeper | Casper Dream Max | Purple RestorePlus |
|---|---|---|
| Side sleeper | Best | Great (choose Soft) |
| Back sleeper | Great | Great |
| Stomach sleeper | Okay (may be too soft) | Good (choose Firm) |
| Combination sleeper | Good | Best |
| Hot sleeper | Fair (get Snow Max) | Best |
| Back pain | Best (zoned lumbar) | Good |
| Couples | Best motion isolation | Best bounce and edge |
Should you buy the discontinued models if you find them?
Sometimes, with caveats:
- Warranty: The brand warranty usually only applies when bought from an authorized seller. Open-box or clearance units from third parties may have no warranty at all. Ask.
- Trial: Brand sleep trials typically don't apply to clearance purchases. If you can't return it, you're betting on a feel you haven't tried.
- Age: A Wave Hybrid that's been in a warehouse since 2024 has been compressed for a long time. Foam that's spent years rolled up may not fully recover.
- Price: If the discount is 40%+ and it's an authorized retailer with a return window, it can be a great deal. If it's 15% off with no returns, buy the successor.
Where to buy
Casper Dream Max
Casper's deepest pressure-relief hybrid with zoned support. The pick for side sleepers and lower-back pain. See Snow Max for the cooling version.
Purple RestorePlus Hybrid
The 3-inch GelFlex Grid over coils, now in Soft or Firm. The best cooling and bounce of any hybrid in this price range.
If both are more than you want to spend, the entry-level Purple Mattress and Casper One deliver a lot of the same DNA for roughly half the price. And our budget mattress guide goes cheaper still.
