How each one actually feels
Casper One: the classic foam hug
The Casper One is the current version of the original Casper — the bed that started the mattress-in-a-box era. It's all foam, with Casper's Zoned Support layer (softer under the shoulders, firmer under the hips). You sink in a little, the foam contours, and pressure points get relief. It feels like what most people picture when they think "memory foam bed," just with less of the stuck-in-quicksand sensation because the top layers are more responsive than dense memory foam.
It's the softest of the three. Side sleepers and lighter people tend to like it most. Heavier sleepers (230+ lbs) and stomach sleepers often find the hips sink too far.
Purple: the grid that doesn't feel like anything else
Purple's GelFlex Grid is a lattice of hyper-elastic polymer. It collapses under concentrated pressure (your hips and shoulders) and stays firm everywhere else. The result is a strange but effective feel — supportive and bouncy at the same time, with no foam "hug" whatsoever. Some people love it instantly; a meaningful minority find the grid texture noticeable through the cover and never adjust.
Because the grid is open, air moves through it freely. Purple is the coolest-sleeping bed of these three by a wide margin. It's also the most responsive, which is why it's our pick for combination sleepers who shift positions all night.
Avocado Green: springy, firm, and natural
Avocado is a completely different animal: organic Dunlop latex over a zoned pocketed-coil unit, with organic wool and cotton in the cover. Latex is buoyant rather than contouring — you sleep on it, not in it. The standard version is firm (around 7/10); Avocado also sells a medium and a plush pillow-top version, which add cost.
Back and stomach sleepers usually love the standard Avocado. Side sleepers under about 150 lbs often find it too firm without the pillow-top upgrade. It's also the heaviest and least "bed-in-a-box" of the three — it ships compressed but it's a substantial mattress once expanded.

Materials, certifications, and what's inside
This is where Avocado pulls away. The Green mattress is GOTS-certified organic (latex, wool, cotton), GREENGUARD Gold for low emissions, and MADE SAFE certified — meaning no flame-retardant chemicals, no fiberglass, no polyurethane foam at all. If "what am I breathing next to for eight hours a night" is a question you ask, Avocado is the only one of these three built around that answer.
Casper and Purple both use CertiPUR-US polyurethane foams (low-VOC, no ozone depleters, no heavy metals). That's the industry-standard certification and it's fine for the vast majority of people. Purple's grid itself is a food-grade polymer with no foam in the top layer, which some buyers prefer.
Durability follows the materials. Natural latex and pocketed coils routinely last 12–20 years. All-foam mattresses like the Casper One typically start softening noticeably around year 6–8. Purple's grid holds its shape well; it's the foam base underneath that ages.
Trial, returns, and warranty

- Purple: 100-night trial, 21-night minimum, free pickup, 10-year warranty.
- Avocado: 365-night trial, 30-night minimum, but a $99 return fee and original shipping isn't refunded. 25-year warranty (the first 10 years are full coverage, then prorated).
Avocado's year-long trial is the standout, but the return fee means it's not risk-free the way Casper's and Purple's returns are. If you're genuinely unsure a firm latex bed is for you, that $99 is the price of finding out.
Price and where to buy
At list price, the ranking is clear: Casper One (~$1,095) → Purple (~$1,499) → Avocado Green (~$1,999). Real-world pricing narrows the gap. Casper runs 15–25% off almost year-round. Avocado discounts in the $200–$400 range around major holidays. Purple discounts less aggressively but bundles accessories.
Casper and Purple are both sold on Amazon, which matters if you have Prime and want the easiest returns. Avocado is direct-to-consumer only (plus a handful of showrooms).
