Layla Kapok Pillow Review: The Most Moldable Adjustable Pillow We've Found

Kapok is a silky plant fiber that's lighter than down. Layla blends it with shredded memory foam and wraps it in a copper-infused cover. The result is an adjustable pillow that feels unlike any other.

Verdict

This is part of our pillow series. The main guide, Best Pillows, ranks every category; this post goes deep on one slice.

Bottom line

The Layla Kapok is the best adjustable pillow for people who find Coop-style foam pillows too dense. The kapok makes it lighter, fluffier, and easier to shape. It's pricier (~$109 queen), sleeps fairly cool, and comes with a 120-night trial. Side and combination sleepers are the target.

How we evaluate

We don't run a sleep lab. These picks are built from manufacturer specs, aggregated owner reviews, and independent testers (Sleep Foundation, Mattress Nerd, Mattress Clarity, Pillow Specialist). Prices are approximate as of August 2026.

What kapok is and why it matters

Kapok is a fiber harvested from the seed pods of the kapok tree. It's silky, hollow, very light, naturally water-resistant, and hypoallergenic. On its own it compresses too easily to support a head all night — which is why Layla blends it with shredded memory foam. The foam provides structure; the kapok fills gaps and adds a plush, down-like softness.

Compared with Coop's foam-plus-microfiber blend, the Layla feels lighter, airier, and more like a down pillow you can adjust. It's the pillow to try if you like the idea of adjustability but don't like the heft of a bag of foam.

How it performs

Support and adjustability

Out of the box it's overstuffed — most people remove a fair amount of fill. Once dialed in, it holds a shape well for a shredded pillow, and the kapok lets you scrunch it into a firmer wedge under the neck or flatten it for back sleeping. That moldability is the main reason to buy it over Coop.

Cooling

Better than a solid foam pillow, similar to Coop Eden. The copper-infused cover is marketed for antimicrobial and cooling properties; the more meaningful factor is that kapok is hollow and breathes, so the fill itself traps less heat than pure foam.

Durability

Kapok compresses faster than foam. Expect to fluff it more often than a Coop and to notice some loss of loft after a year or two. The 5-year warranty covers defects, not normal settling.

Weight and noise

Lighter than most adjustable pillows. Silent — no crinkle, no buckwheat rustle.

Who should buy it

  • Buy it if: you're a side or combination sleeper who wants adjustability with a plush, down-like feel; you found Coop too dense; you run slightly warm.
  • Skip it if: you want firm, dense support (get Coop Original or Saybrook); you're a stomach sleeper (too much fill even when reduced); you want the cheapest adjustable (Coop is $35 less).

Frequently asked questions

Is the Layla Kapok pillow good for side sleepers?

Yes — it ships with enough fill for a high loft and is adjustable down from there. The kapok-foam blend molds well under the neck, which side sleepers tend to like. It's softer than Coop, so people who want firm support may prefer Coop.

What is the Layla pillow made of?

Kapok fibers (a light, silky plant fiber from the kapok tree) blended with shredded memory foam, inside a zippered, copper-infused cover. The fill is adjustable.

Does the Layla Kapok pillow sleep hot?

It sleeps cooler than a solid foam pillow. Kapok fibers are hollow and breathe, and the cover is copper-infused. It's comparable to the Coop Eden for temperature.

How long does the Layla Kapok pillow last?

Roughly 2–4 years. Kapok compresses faster than foam, so expect to fluff it regularly and see some loft loss over time. The 5-year warranty covers defects.

Layla Kapok vs Coop: which is better?

Layla is plusher, lighter, and more moldable; Coop is denser, firmer, and $35 cheaper with a slightly shorter trial (100 vs 120 nights). If you want down-like softness with adjustability, Layla. If you want firm support at a lower price, Coop.

Can you wash the Layla Kapok pillow?

The cover unzips and is machine washable. The fill should not be washed; spot-clean only.
