Head-to-head

Coop vs Saybrook: Two Adjustable Pillows, One Clear Winner for Each Sleeper

Both are adjustable-fill pillows with a zippered cover and a bag of extra stuffing. The difference is what's inside — and it changes how they feel more than you'd expect.

How they feel

Coop Original: smooth, moldable, slightly fibrous

Coop's foam is cross-cut into small uniform pieces and blended with microfiber. The result is a pillow that feels smooth (no lumps), molds easily, and has a slightly airy, fiber-forward feel. It's medium-firm at full fill and softens as you remove stuffing. This is the pillow most "best adjustable pillow" lists rank first.

Saybrook: denser, more memory-foam-like

Saybrook's blend leans harder on memory foam and uses less fiber. Independent testers who've compared the two describe Saybrook's foam as higher grade — with the slow, sinking bounce-back of a solid memory foam pillow — where Coop's reads more like regular foam. If you love memory foam and wish adjustable pillows felt more like it, that's Saybrook's pitch. The trade-off is a slightly heavier, warmer pillow.

Coop Eden: the cool version of Original

Same construction with gel-infused foam and a cover that stays cooler. Softer than the Original at full fill. Worth the $13 premium if you sleep warm.

The differences that decide it

  • Trial and warranty. Coop's 100-night trial and 5-year warranty are sold directly and consistent. Saybrook is sold mainly through Amazon and its own site; return terms depend on where you buy. Advantage: Coop.
  • Certifications. Both are CertiPUR-US. Coop adds GREENGUARD Gold (low emissions). Advantage: Coop.
  • Fill quality. Reviewers who've handled both give the edge to Saybrook's foam. Advantage: Saybrook.
  • Cooling. Coop Eden > Coop Original > Saybrook. More foam means more heat retention.
  • Lumpiness. Neither is lumpy — both use new foam and fiber to smooth gaps. This is what separates both from $30 shredded pillows.
  • Adjustment process. Both include extra fill. Saybrook's measuring tube is a nice touch; Coop's bag is fine.

Frequently asked questions

Is Coop or Saybrook better?

Coop Original is the safer overall buy — smoother feel, 100-night trial, 5-year warranty, and GREENGUARD Gold certification. Saybrook wins on fill quality and memory-foam feel, according to testers who've compared both. If you want a true memory-foam sensation, Saybrook; if you want the reliable standard, Coop.

What is the Saybrook pillow made of?

A blend Saybrook calls "Lion Down Alternative" — shredded memory foam, microfiber plumes, and silicone gel beads — in a zippered bamboo-derived cover. It uses a higher proportion of memory foam than most adjustable pillows.

Is the Coop pillow better than Nest Easy Breather?

They're very similar adjustable shredded-foam pillows. Nest's Easy Breather has a side-sleeper version with a crescent cutout and a cooling cover; Coop is cheaper and has the longer track record. For pure side sleepers Nest's side-sleeper model is worth a look; for everyone else Coop is the value pick.

Does the Coop pillow sleep hot?

The Original sleeps moderately warm, like most foam pillows. The Coop Eden uses gel-infused foam and a cooler cover and is noticeably better for hot sleepers.

Coop Original vs Eden: what's the difference?

Eden uses gel-infused foam, a cooler cover, and feels a bit softer at full fill. Original is about $13 cheaper. Hot sleepers should get Eden; everyone else can save the money.

Are adjustable pillows worth it?

For side and combination sleepers, yes. Being able to set loft to your exact shoulder width is the single biggest factor in pillow comfort, and it's something a fixed pillow can't offer.
